How to use your Digital Multimeter effectively

This functionality of the multimeter comes in handy when you need to check the soldering and connections of your circuit.

 

  1. Connect the black probe to the COM and the red probe to the voltage terminal with a V and the Ohm symbol.

 

  1. Turn the knob to select the diode setting as explained in the previous slides for testing diodes.

 

  1. Turn off the power supply.

 

  1. Touch the end of the probes on the two points across which you wish to measure the continuity (keeping the polarity in mind).

 

  1. Observe the value displayed on the multimeter. A low value of resistance in the range of 0-200 Ohms is an indicator for good continuity.

 

Tip – Some multimeters generate a beep when two points are shorted. This can be used for checking continuity and detecting unwanted shorts in your circuit.
