Snow Leopard, a new version of Apple’s Mac OS X operating system, is available for preorder at Amazon. com. Mac OS X 10. 6 Snow Leopard, which is expected to hit the market in September, makes Mac computers “faster, more reliable, and easier to use,” according to Apple.

Microsoft has launched the first Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC). Both the 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 RC are available in English, German, Japanese, French, and Spanish and can be downloaded from Microsoft’s website.

PC maker Asustek develops a netbook which will run Google’s Android open source operating system, business publication Bloomberg reports. Asustek’s main man for Eee PC netbooks Samson Hu said in an interview that a team of engineers had been assigned to develop the Android-based netbook project.
